Welcome to our web site for Discovery Harbour! We have added a "What's New" section to the links on the left for viewing new and interesting information just added to the web site.
Discovery Harbour is one of the southern most communities in the United States. Off highway 11, it is located 60 miles south from Kona International Airport, 30 miles from Volcanoes National Park, and 60 miles from the town of Hilo. Because of its location and altitude (around 950 feet above sea level), the climate is mild with temperatures ranging between 70 degrees in the winter to 86 degrees in the summer. The trade winds beginning early afternoon keep the temperature at a very comfortable level.
Wake up to the smell of fresh air and a magnificent sunrise every single morning. Enjoy cloud formations that are unusual and beautiful. Know you are within driving distance to the clearest, warmest ocean water in the United States. Drive over to Black Sand Beach, only minutes away off highway 11 to see ducks in the pond, turtles (an endangered species) resting on the sand, swim beside other sea life in the ocean, and watch the waves crashing along the lava rocks. You can drive to other white or tan sand beaches where swimming with beautiful fish and perhaps a turtle or two is very common. Be sure to bring your snorkeling gear to see the magnificent corals and more. Visit Green Sands Beach where the sand is truly green against the beautiful clear water. Then before retiring for the evening, enjoy looking at the stars seeing each constellation more vividly than ever before.
It is far enough away from the major cities to enjoy the beauty and serenity of the Big Island, yet convenient enough to be comfortable and active. The community of Discovery Harbour overlooks all of South Point known for its green sand beach. If you enjoy green mountains and ocean views surrounding you, to say nothing of the people and golf course, then this is the place for you.

The Tutu and Me Preschool is a mobile preschool program. There is no cost to attend. We are funded by Kamehameha Schools and USDOE, in collaboration with the Partners In Development Foundation. We aim to provide valuable early learning experiences for young children ages birth to 5 years of age as well as provide educational and emotional support to grandparents/adults who are raising them. We feel privileged to be serving your community and would be honored to have you participate in our program. The Tutu and Me Traveling Preschool is a very special kind of school, where we encourage the adults who accompany their keiki to interact, talk to, play with and have fun with their keiki as they take on the teaching role. When children are very young, they learn most from their parents, family members, and others who are important to the family. They are learning about their own abilities, how the world works, who will be helpful to them, what situations or people may harm them, and just how they fit into this world. They learn most of this through our responses to what they say or do. In Tutu and Me, it is not enough that the children have many things to do. Adults interacting and talking with the children provide important information and ideas about what they are doing. Children learn the names of items, the reasons for things, and how to think. All of this is important learning before children go to kindergarten. |
